World Patient Safety Day is observed every year on 17 September to raise awareness of patient safety and promote actions that help make healthcare safer for everyone.
Established by the World Health Organization (WHO), the day brings attention to the importance of preventing avoidable harm in healthcare and strengthening patient safety across health systems.
Each year focuses on a specific patient safety theme, encouraging healthcare professionals, policymakers, patients and other stakeholders to share knowledge, identify risks and promote safer practices.
The day also highlights the importance of involving patients and their families in healthcare decisions and of fostering a culture where safety, learning and continuous improvement are central to the delivery of care.
